LIBELID is a series of love songs in Yiddish by Ola Bilinska and a band of experienced musicians from Gdańsk, Warsaw and Sejny. It is a continuation of the album Berjozkele, a scheme known to the festival audience of the 25th edition of JCF. The compositions forming the Libelid programme include a selection of pre-war Yiddish songs telling the story of the different faces of love. The lyrics contain important themes from Jewish morality which strongly affected the emotional and family life of the members of the community: arranged marriages, strong family ties, images of everyday life. Other lyrics by such poets as Deborah Vogel and Moishe Leib Halpern abound in poetic images of a universal dimension where love is not measured by time, morality or origin. The music premise on which Libelid is based is a subtle combination of acoustic and electronic sounds, hence the synthesizer and looper meet with cymbals, the cello and mandolin while the trumpet echoes electronic effects. The aim of these procedures is to create an atmosphere able to sustain the wealth of emotions contained in the lyrics such as tenderness, passion, rejection, brooding over a past or a lost emotion.
